"Looking for Training?" is an online directory of
employment and training services and programs offered by agencies
throughout Ontario.
How
to Search "Looking for Training?"
To begin your search, select a region on the map or enter your
postal code. Your searches will be on the agencies located in the
region you select. Once you have selected a region, you will be sent
to another page that will allow you to narrow the search by using
either:
Text: This is the easiest way to search.
Simply type in the keywords of what you're looking for.
- Example: if you are looking for services for
immigrant women in Hamilton, you could type "immigrant women
Hamilton" into the text box.
Criteria: There are 4 categories of criteria
that offer selections from a drop-down menu. You can search by any or
all of the following categories:
- Program: These are listed by the formal names
of the programs created by the government, so this category is useful
if you know the specific program you are looking for.
- Example: you are looking for agencies in your
general area that offer the summer jobs service
- Service: These are more general areas related
to employment. This is a useful category if you know what kind of
service you want but do not know the specific name of the program
- Example: you are searching for career counselling.
- Client Type: This category allows you to
search for services and programs directed to a particular group of
people.
- Example: If you want to search for services for
women only, select "women" from the client type.
- Physical Location: This will list all of the
cities and towns within the region that you first selected, so you
can select one specific community rather than search an entire
region.
General
Search Tips
You can search by type of service or program, and/or by client
type from the drop-down menus in the criteria listing of the search
box. Or you may search by entering a keyword entering a word into the
text box.
You can search by a single criterion. For example, you may wish
to see a list of all the employment and training agencies in your
city. Select the city from the drop-down menu of "physical
location" and then click the "Search" button.
You can combine searches. For example, if you are looking for
information for women on running your own business, select
"self-employment" from the drop-down menu of
"services", and select "women" from the drop-down
menu of "client types". Then click the "Search"
button.
You can combine keyword and criteria (drop-down menu) searches.
For example, if you are looking for services and programs for
immigrant women, type in "women" as a keyword, and select
"immigrant/newcomer" from the "client types"
drop-down menu.
If you get very few or no search results, try these tips:
- Search for only one type of program or service at a time.
- Try broadening your search criteria. One of the easiest ways
to do this is to search only by your location or your client type.
- Check the spelling of keywords.
- Try a keyword search if a criteria search hasn't worked for
you, or vice versa.
Frequently
Asked Questions (FAQ)
How can I see only programs and services for
women?
After selecting a region of Ontario on the map, you can select
"women" from the "client type" criteria category
on the left-hand side. This will narrow the search to programs and
services that focus on women.
I selected "women" as a client type
and there are no results!
There could be two possible reasons why this is happening:
- You have selected too many criteria and there are no services
that match all of the criteria you've indicated. If this is the case,
you may want to try again searching only by location or by client
type.
- There are no services or programs specific to women in your
area. There are likely programs and services that serve both men and
women, however, so try searching without selecting "women"
as a client type.
I know of a program or service that isn't in
your directory OR the information you have on a listing is incorrect.
