Canada's first 211 service was officially launched in Toronto on June 13, 2002 by United Way of Greater Toronto, Findhelp Information Services, the City of Toronto, the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and Human Resources Development Canada.
211Toronto.ca is the public, online version of the database used by information and referral specialists for the 211 telephone service.
211Toronto.ca provides comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date information on services provided by nonprofit, community-based organizations or the public sector. In general, private or commercial organizations are not included unless they provide unique services or they are licensed to provide certain services such as child care.
211Toronto.ca has been recognized with four prestigious awards:
- Head of the Public Service Award "Excellence in Service Delivery"
- The Ontario Federal Council's Leadership Through Collaboration Award "Enhancing Service to Citizens of Ontario"
- Bronze Level Certificate of Excellence at the Public Sector Quality Fair.
